Hi! We’re Bruce and Laurel Stanton from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Here
we are on our hotel balcony a few meters from St. George Beach in Chora,
Naxos. We visited Naxos for the third time to celebrate our 25th
wedding anniversary in May 2000. We hope these few pictures will give
you some sense of why we love Naxos and plan to return again and again.

Without a doubt the most famous landmark in Naxos is the doorway
of the temple of Apollo on a small isthmus connected to the main city
of Chora. The city itself seems to be piled up in a heap, topped by a
Venetian fortress. Narrow streets wind and turn in patterns originally
designed to confuse invaders. They continue to confuse visitors!
We happily spent hours wondering the streets, at all times of
the day and night, visiting little shops, tavernas and museums. We experienced
the rhythm of daily life of the Naxian people. English is widely spoken
and the people are very warm and are interested in making friends. Make
sure to take pictures of your children. You will be asked to show them
often!

This table setting features a country lunch we had in the village
of Lionas. Everything was produced right in the area, served by the wonderful
older couple who owned the taverna.

Ah! The food in Naxos! One of the pleasures of our day would be
visiting the shops and bakeries to buy the wine, cheese, bread and olives
for our lunch. This shop carries all Naxian products from nuts to olive
oil, aged cheeses, local herbs, wine and pottery. Fascinating just to
browse awhile and absorb the sights and aromas. If you have any
questions or Naxos experiences you would like to share our email address
